Minutes of Staffin Community Council held in Staffin School 14 th September 2004

Les opened the meeting thanking everyone for attending

Minutes of the Last Meeting and Matters Arising:

The previous minutes were proposed by Sheena and seconded by Les

  1. Storr Car Park Road Markings: May now be next spring. Matter to stay pending until completion
  1. NVA Event, Storr: Due to the recent cliff falls on The Storr, British Geological Society to do a full survey, and plans may have to be amended. As far as we are aware it is still planned for Summer 2005. To stay open
  1. Road Markings Columba 1400: As Item 1. To stay pending
  1. Staffin Surgery: There is still some query over the Doctors Surgery within the proposed Respite Centre. It is hoped that the Respite Centre will be fully operational by December and we are awaiting further consultation. Norma, on behalf of the school board, stated that the School are very happy at having the Respite Centre and the disabled access next door to the school, but that the school board had voiced their concerns over traffic management.
  1. Bus timetable (or lack of): Sylvia still to do
  1. Village Officer Grant: Les has written to Bill Ross explaining that no one was able to monitor the work of a village officer within the Staffin Area. Matter Closed
  1. Out of Hours: To keep on the agenda and keep lobbying the NHS
  1. Cars at Clachan: It was suggested that we speak to Highways dept for an amnesty for the removal of cars, and see if that will solve a problem
  1. Rock falls, Quiraing: they have now been moved to the side of the road, No further problem

Treasurers Report:

£1326-43 in the account at the moment. There are no outstanding payments

Planning Applications:

3 Grealin

NVA The Storr

4 Ellishadder

No Objections to any of them

Highland Council Minutes and Agendas:

An article about Gaelic Teaching in Schools, which Norma has taken to follow up

Article about the closure of rural telephone boxes – Sylvia to speak to BT and check on the ones our area – UPDATE – At this time (September) none in the Staffin area are flagged for disposal.

No one to put forward

School Footpath:

Now between the School and education dept, Matter Closed

Highlands and Islands Fire Service:

Matter closed, but as a result of that the question was brought up about the current situation with Staffin Fire Hut. Les to find out and update

Big Lottery Fund Consultation:

Sheena taken the survey to peruse, and complete if she feels necessary

Northern Constabulary:

Sylvia taken to read

Portree High School Board Minutes and Young Members List

No takers for the minutes, only 1 person eligible for being young person rep for Staffin, and they had been asked previously to join the committee, but didn't want to. We have no young person rep at the moment

Wild Land Survey:

Closed

Scottish Exec Homes survey:

Norma taken

Other Correspondence:

  1. Affordable housing: Norma taken
  2. Water consultation, Scottish Health Council, Renewable resources, The Brief, Community Economic Development, UHI, Orange Newsletter: No takers for any leaflets, and nothing that effects us
  3. Compost bins: Passed to all
  4. Glascon: Brochure for litterbins, benches, doggy bins etc, retained for future reference
  5. Innis: Membership renewal form
  1. Planning Process: New leaflets available about the Planning in Scotland.
  1. Housing Association: Sheena taken
  1. Trotternish Marketing Group: Details of open meeting on 23 November. Norma asked to be kept informed for details for this
  1. Community Safety Seminar: Passed to Isobel
  1. ASCC: New website launched, are we up to date with our membership. Sylvia to check up

AOCB:

Roddy MacLeod, 2 Grealin, would like a skip at the end of the Grealin Road at the turning place, Les to sort

Grass cutting and the tyres placed round the bins at Cille na Bealach Cemetery. Les to inform Bill Ross

Not quite Council Business, but A CLEANER IS DESPERATELY WANTED AT THE SCHOOL. ANY BODY INTERESTED TO CONTACT NORMA FOR FURTHER DETAILS
