| You never hear people referring to the name Fladaigh nowadays, but it used to be common around 1950 or so. The area takes in Dėg, Glas pheighinn, Brogaig and the island. People from that area were called 'muinntir Fhladaigh'. The people of Fladaigh never took the main road. They always followed the shore and carried on up to the garadh mhor, behind the Lodge. The Fladaigh people had their own gate there. Fladaigh (flat island) is common in the Hebrides. Fladaigh a Chuain (Fladda chuan), Fladaigh Ratharsair (by Rig) where people lived until perhaps thirty years ago. Apparently there are still four houses there. We find another Fladaigh in Broadford, Skye. | |
