| Sgoil Bhaltois (Cùl nan cnoc/Bhaltos primary) - This operated as a school from ...... until 1942 It drew pupils from the communities of ......, ..... , ..... William Mackenzie, the author of Skye: Iochdar Trotternish was headmaster of Cùl nan cnoc primary from .... to ...... His pupils had a reputation for being clever - and several became seamen. The MacDonalds of Bhaltos - three brothers - were all officers at sea - they were sons of Taigh Ghilleasbuig' Ruaidh. Angus Cameron was a skipper sea/and a Macarthur. Ronald Gordon was a skipper. Seonaidh Cameron, brother of Angus was an officer. During the Second World War, Sgoil Bhaltois was closed (in 1941 or 1942) and its scholars were diverted to Stafainn School for the time being. (After the Cùl nan cnoc school closed, the building was used for ceilidhs until it was demolished. The stones from Sgoil Bhaltois were used for the power station in Nostie, in Ross-shire. When they were building the hydro, the general foreman was keen to use the stone from the school.
