Title

Ho ro Ruaraidh 'ic a Phi
Ho ro Ruaraidh ic a Phi
Na bi stri ri d'ainealos
Gum b'fhearr dhuit aon bhith agad le cinnt
Na mile bhith a fanoid ort

Thug thu greis an deidh 'n te bhàn
Aig Teàrlach 'ain ic Alasdair
Ach mhil a Lomonach a shùil
Is dhruigh? Sud mar an gaillionn ort

'S math a chumadh tu beag òg
'S gu leor agad 's na bancaichean
Gu brath cha d'reidheidh i fon chliabh
Tha capul breagh 's cairt agad

'S tu bha gorach 's nach robh seolt'
Nuair thoisich thu ri leannanachd
Tha te neo dha an taobh sa'n Dùn
A reidheadh an cul a' falach leat

Ruaraidh cha chan mise 'n corr
'S mi fhin cho mór na m' Maban
A ghruag a dh' fhas orm nis air cnamh
Tha thu bàn 's cha ghabh iad sinn.

Biography

A Nicolson of Brogaig is remembered for his music and imagination. He was Neil Nicolson, or, rather, Nìall Mhurcaidh Néill. He was a brother of the grandmother of Alec 'Bhalots' Macdonald. He was born in 1884 to a musical, artistic family. When he came home he fished and worked the croft. He was well known for his skills in healing sick animals. He was even better known as a bàrd, though. He had been a sailor for most of his life. And when he returned home, he fished and worked the croft until he died at 67 years. Like his father before him, he composed many lovely songs. Only a few have survived.
