Title A' Ghruagaich air a bheil mi'n toir |
A' Ghruagaich air a bheil mi'n toir Te' s boidhche leam a chi mi 'S tu thogadh m'inntinn bho gach leon Na 'm faighinn coir dhomh fhìn ort. 'Sa ghruagaich òig is boidhche dealbh Do chruth gum fhalbh far m'inntinn Bho sail do bhuinn gu barr do chinn Gun chron neo leon ri inns' ort. Do shlios mar shneàchda geal nam beann 'S a' gheamhradh air na stucan Nan tachradh cuisean mar bu mhaìann Am bliadhna theannainn dlùth ruit. 'S e d'iomhaigh chiuin a rinn mo leon 'S a dh'fhàg mi 'n toir gach uair ort 'S gun fhios leam fhìn ciud e'n ceann fath Thug orms' a ghràidh bhith luaidh ort. 'S gur e mo mhìann a bhi gun dail An tìr mo ghraidh air chuairt leat Far am bith na h-eòin a' seinn gun tamh 'S an spréidh le'n al mun cuairt orr'. 'S ged nach eil mo spréidh le'n al Gan arach air na cluaintibh Cha leiginn gainn' ort 's mi bhith slàn 'S gu bràth cha toirinn fuath dhuit. 'S ged a dh'fhalbh mi uat an dràsd Gun till mi nall thar chuantan 'S cha tamh dhomh uair gun cluinn mi bhuat 'S gun dean sinn suas ar n-inntinn. 'S ged a dh'fhalbh mi fada bhuat Dh'Astràlia thar chuantan Chan fhaigh mi tamh gun tig an t-am 'S gun cuir sinn snaim nach fhuasgail |
Description Oran gaoil, love song Nìall Mhurchaidh Néill composed this song on behalf of Eòghan Campbell from Stoighseall (who was the brother to the mother of Eòghan Bàn of Angus Òg fame). Eòghan had requested a song from Neil which he could leave with his sweetheart - Màiri Mackintosh from Mugarradh before he went to war. However, Eòghan was killed in Australia and when they found his body, Neil's song - as above - was in Eoghan's inside pocket.

Sloinneadh Niall Mhurchaidh Neill from Brogaig
Biography A Nicolson of Brogaig is remembered for his music and imagination. He was Neil Nicolson, or, rather, Nìall Mhurcaidh Néill. He was a brother of the grandmother of Alec 'Bhalots' Macdonald. He was born in 1884 to a musical, artistic family. When he came home he fished and worked the croft. He was well known for his skills in healing sick animals. He was even better known as a bàrd, though. He had been a sailor for most of his life. And when he returned home, he fished and worked the croft until he died at 67 years. Like his father before him, he composed many lovely songs. Only a few have survived.
