the grey pass.

Description

This was the one of the traditional route used to transport goods from the shore to the community. Most of the provision arrived by sea and whilst the puffer would anchor a safe distance from shore locals would transport the goods by small open boats to the Slip. From there they would be taken by pack or cart to the shops or homes in the area. This pass was steep but had one of the few cobbled paths in the area (staran). The initial 50 mtr of path left the store and crossed to the base of the cliff. This was where the Cath riadhach started and wound it's way up to the back of Garafad. This path was recently repaired by the Staffin Trust with assistance from various public agencies and the Skye & Lochalsh Footpath Initiative.
