Translation the black bridge. |

Description So called because each year it was given a coating of black tar. The bridge was swept away around 1952/3 during a flood. Workers who had been cleaning the river had undermined the central support of the bridge and during the flood it gave way. A temporary bridge was installed called a 'Bailey' bridge of a design which was used by the army at the time. |
