Description In 1933 Stenscholl and Brogaig shared the same grazings. As a result of a dispute over a new bull it was decided that the grazings would best be divided and a new fence was to be built. Unfortunately, the Land-court was required to settle the division as to where this new boundary should run. Brogaig wanted to follow the old earthen wall whilst Stenscholl wished to draw new lines between the two neighbours. A new fence route was set out by the Land-court and the contract was given to Ruaraidh MacNeill from Earlish who was 70 years old at the time. Ruaraidh walked from Earlish to Staffin at the start of each week, staying with relatives in Glasphein until the week-end when he walked across the hill once again. After this contract was finished he was given further work to fence around the house of Murchadh Alasdair Mhóir (Tigh Bo-ho). The Stenscholl and Brogaig boundary fence survived until 1964 when it was in needed renewal. Recently, in 1987, Murdo MacDonald (Bùchan), Brogaig and Stewart Clark Stenscholl again erected a new fence. The new Stenscholl fank was first used in 1960. The eldest man attending was Calum Sheumais from Clachan whilst the youngest was James MacDonald of Stenscholl. The fank had been built by Alasdair Dhonnachaidh from Maligar. |
