the ridge.

Description

Rigg was said to be a great place for grazing cattle. It was also famous for a family of Macqueens or possibly McCowans. John McCowan was born in Rigg in 1788 and is said to have been referred to as 'guigeamh fear uirnuigh an Eilean Sgiathanaich' - the fifth man of prayer in Skye. (Men of Skye) There is only one house left in Rigg today as sixty families were evicted from here at the time of the clearances. Archie Ross from Dunan (Eardsaidh Bàn) told that at one time you were never out of sight of a house light from the time you left the Storr till you reached past Flodigarry - a distance of 12 miles.
